New Delhi: A recent report has revealed that a senior Indian cricketer carried an astonishing 27 bags, weighing over 250 kg, during India’s tour of Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had to cover the expenses for the excess baggage, prompting the board to introduce stricter rules for future overseas tours.
According to a report published in Dainik Jagran, the player's luggage included not just his personal belongings but also items belonging to his family members and personal staff. Among the bags were 17 cricket bats and several other personal effects, significantly exceeding the usual luggage limit.
BCCI Tightens Travel Policies
In response to the incident, the BCCI has implemented new policies to prevent similar occurrences in the future. Under the revised rules, the board will only bear the cost of up to 150 kg of luggage per player during international tours. Any additional baggage will have to be paid for by the players themselves.
The report further claims that the player's family accompanied him throughout the Australia tour, and the board had to cover the cost of transporting their luggage across multiple cities. The total expenses incurred by the BCCI in this regard reportedly amounted to several lakhs of rupees.
Concerned that such practices could set a precedent for other players, the board decided to introduce stricter regulations on team travel. Players are now required to use team transport, and personal travel arrangements will no longer be permitted.
No Family Members Allowed for Champions Trophy
With the Indian team set to travel to Dubai for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, the BCCI has issued a clear directive: family members will not be allowed to accompany players during the tournament. According to a PTI report, a senior cricketer had requested permission for his wife to join him in Dubai, but the board refused to grant an exception.
These new measures indicate the BCCI’s intent to streamline operations and ensure a more disciplined approach to team travel and logistics.
