Ahmedabad, Gujarat – On Thursday morning, a plane carrying 33 Gujarati immigrants, part of a larger group of 104 Indians deported from the United States, landed at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, according to local officials.
Police Escort to Native Places
The 33 individuals, which included both women and children, were promptly transferred to their respective native locations in Gujarat. They were escorted in police vehicles, as confirmed by R.D. Oza, the Assistant Commissioner of Police for 'G' division.
"A flight carrying 33 deported Gujarati immigrants, including children and women, arrived at the airport from Amritsar. We had deployed police vehicles to safely transport them to their hometowns," said Oza while speaking to reporters at the airport.
Immigrants Refuse to Comment
When approached by journalists, the deported immigrants declined to make any statements. They were then swiftly moved to their home areas by police vehicles, maintaining their silence throughout the process.
Origins of the Immigrants
Sources revealed that the majority of the deported individuals hail from districts such as Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Patan, Vadodara, and Kheda.
Deported Group Arrives in Punjab
Earlier, a US military aircraft carrying 104 illegal Indian immigrants landed at Amritsar, Punjab on Wednesday, which included 33 immigrants from Gujarat.
Family Reactions
Family members of the deported individuals have expressed confusion, stating that they had no knowledge of how their relatives ended up in the United States. Many have conveyed concerns about the circumstances leading to their migration.
Sympathy for the Deportees
Former Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister, Nitin Patel, voiced his sympathy for the deported individuals, emphasizing that most of them had migrated in search of better job opportunities or a career, and should not be regarded as criminals.
Police Response
Parikshita Rathod, Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID-Crime), clarified that the authorities would not be questioning the deported immigrants at this stage.
