Tesla has issued a recall for 46,096 Cybertrucks in the United States due to a potential safety hazard involving the vehicle’s trim. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the stainless-steel exterior cant rail—a trim panel—may detach while the vehicle is in motion, posing a road hazard and increasing the risk of accidents.
The recall affects Cybertruck models manufactured between November 2023 and February 2025. Tesla has identified that the issue stems from an adhesive failure, which makes the trim panel susceptible to environmental embrittlement. To rectify the problem, the company will replace the rail assembly with a more secure attachment, incorporating a new adhesive formula and additional bolts to prevent detachment.
This marks the eighth recall for the Cybertruck since its release in late 2023, following previous issues related to drive power loss and tire pressure warning lights. Despite these recalls, no reports of crashes, injuries, or fatalities have been linked to the trim detachment issue.
Tesla plans to notify affected owners by mail in May, offering free repairs at service centers. Owners are also encouraged to contact Tesla or the NHTSA for further details regarding the recall.
Industry analysts suggest that the recall could impact Tesla’s growth trajectory, as the company faces increased competition and a shift in consumer preferences toward more affordable hybrid vehicles. While Tesla has not disclosed specific Cybertruck delivery figures, the recalled units are believed to account for a significant majority of the model’s total production.
Despite the recall announcement, Tesla's stock remained relatively stable in premarket trading.
