Over the course of several decades, Prof. Dr. El Namaki has played influential roles in shaping academic institutions, advancing strategic thinking, planning concepts, and exploring the evolving relationship between human cognition and artificial intelligence. His career reflects not only professional excellence, but also an unwavering commitment to discovering new dimensions of thought and leadership.

In this feature, Prof. Dr. El Namaki opens up about the defining moments of his journey, the ideas that continue to motivate him, and his vision for the future of business education in the AI era. Continue reading to gain valuable insights from one of the most thought-provoking voices in strategic thinking today.

A Lifelong Pursuit of the Unknown

Prof. Dr. Sam El Namaki’s childhood and early schooling were shaped by an environment full of multifaceted enterprise. Close family members were entrepreneurs in every sense of the word and across a wide range of fields, including architecture, industrial development, media, politics, product innovation, and education. This exposure provided him with a deep understanding of diverse economic, cultural, and technological environments from an early age.

These experiences cultivated within him a continuous desire to achieve and explore beyond conventional boundaries.

His academic journey naturally evolved toward greater intellectual ambitions. He earned his Master’s degree in International Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam and later completed his PhD in International Economics at the Free University of Brussels. These academic foundations significantly deepened his understanding of international business systems, economic transformation, and strategic thinking.

Driven by a passion for discovering what remained unknown, Prof. Dr. El Namaki continuously pursued ideas and concepts beyond the familiar.

One of the earliest breakthroughs in his career came through Philips, where he was introduced to advanced technology and the world of batteries. His years there immersed him in both technology and global business while also exposing him to the norms and standards of international executive performance and corporate leadership.

Another defining phase of his journey came through McKinsey’s London operations during the early development of the concept of strategic planning. The extensive hours he spent studying flow charts, worksheets, narratives, and strategic manuals became the foundation of what later evolved into his lifelong intellectual, academic, and professional specialization.

A third major breakthrough came through Time Magazine, where he gained exposure to global media strategies, technologies, and policies. Although he declined an opportunity to join the company’s U.S. headquarters due to family considerations, the experience further broadened his global perspective.

Over the years, his journey evolved into a powerful combination of academic leadership, global consulting, research, and entrepreneurship development. His exposure across Europe, China, and international institutions helped shape his deep understanding of strategic management, cross-cultural leadership, and global business transformation.

Exploring the Crossroads of AI and Strategy

Today, Prof. Dr. Sam El Namaki continues to serve as an academic in every sense of the word. His work remains rooted in exploring the limitless arena of strategic thinking, a field he describes as both rich and boundaryless. Through research, teaching, consulting, and thought leadership, he continues to contribute to the evolution of modern management thinking.

His expertise spans strategic management, artificial intelligence, international business, entrepreneurship, corporate restructuring, and top management profiling. He teaches and consults at MBA and DBA levels while also contributing influential think tank writings on subjects such as artificial intelligence, strategic thinking, Chinese economic policy, and global finance.

Currently, he serves as Honorary Dean at ELITE Innovation College Cambridge in the United Kingdom, where he supports innovative competency generation in artificial intelligence and its management implications. He also serves as Dean of the Artificial Intelligence Technology Inc (Canada) focusing on research, publication, and consulting in the managerial dimensions of artificial intelligence.

In addition, Prof. Dr. El Namaki holds the position of Senior Editor at American Academic Journals (JAAR), contributing to academic discourse and research development in emerging business and technology sectors.

Artificial intelligence became one of the most compelling areas he discovered while searching for unexplored intellectual territory. The intersection between AI and strategic thinking evolved into a major focus of his work, inspiring numerous articles, publications, and books dedicated to this emerging field.

He believes the relationship between artificial intelligence, human cognition, and strategic thought remains largely unexplored. According to him, much of today’s conversation around AI only scratches the surface, while the deeper mysteries connecting human intelligence and artificial intelligence continue to offer vast opportunities for exploration.

What distinguishes his work is the unique combination of academic rigor, strategic consulting, institutional leadership, and a forward-looking focus on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on business education and corporate strategy.

Building Institutions and Ideas That Endure

Prof. Dr. Sam El Namaki strongly believes in McClelland’s concept of “achievement motivation,” a foundational theory in entrepreneurship studies. A strong drive toward achievement has consistently shaped his professional ambitions and long-term vision.

Rather than identifying a single defining accomplishment, his career reflects a collection of remarkable milestones that have left a lasting global impact.

Among these achievements was the creation of the first business school in China, established in Mao Tse-Tung’s birthplace, Changsha, between 1986 and 1988. He also contributed to McKinsey’s early development of strategic planning concepts during the early 1980s in London.

Another major accomplishment was the foundation of Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands in 1989, established with generous support from Governor Kremers of Limburg Province. Prof. Dr. El Namaki later served for nearly 20 years as Dean and academic leader of the institution, helping position it among Europe’s leading business schools while contributing to teaching, fundraising, entrepreneurship development, and strategic consulting.

His contributions also extended to the establishment of Victoria University in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, during the early 2000s. He later served as Dean of VU School of Management in Switzerland for more than a decade, where he focused on strengthening academic guidance and global institutional networks.

His international academic influence further expanded through his role as Visiting Professor at Jiao Tung University in China, where he taught international business and contributed to global academic collaboration. He also led projects with the World Bank, the Netherlands government and the European Commission related to graduate business school creation and institutional development in countries as varied as Syria ,Indonesia and Kazakhstan.

In recent years, his intellectual contributions have increasingly focused on artificial intelligence and strategic thinking. He authored and published the first book on artificial intelligence and strategic thinking in 2022, followed by the publication of the first book on “Neo Strategic Management” in 2024.

Additionally, he has conducted extensive research and published more than 50 groundbreaking articles covering subjects such as AI system structures, AI and brain cognition, and AI-driven strategic transformation.

Reimagining the Future of Business Education

Looking ahead, Prof. Dr. Sam El Namaki’s vision centers on contributing to the restructuring of business education and institutional learning within the rapidly emerging era of artificial intelligence.

He strongly believes that artificial intelligence will fundamentally reshape not only business operations, but also the philosophy, structure, and delivery of management education itself. In his view, traditional business education models must evolve to accommodate the realities of AI systems, strategic cognition, and technological transformation.

His current work focuses heavily on exploring the intersection between strategic thinking, human cognition, and artificial intelligence while helping institutions and leaders prepare responsibly for this transition.

Through ongoing research, teaching, publications, and institutional leadership, Prof. Dr. El Namaki continues to contribute to the global conversation surrounding the future of artificial intelligence, leadership, strategy, and modern management education.

Conclusion

Prof. Dr. Sam El Namaki’s journey is a powerful reflection of what lifelong intellectual curiosity can achieve. From shaping strategic management concepts and establishing influential academic institutions to exploring the evolving relationship between artificial intelligence and human cognition, his work continues to push the boundaries of modern business thought.

What makes his story truly inspiring is not only the scale of his achievements, but also his unwavering commitment to exploring the unknown. As the world enters a new era driven by artificial intelligence and rapid transformation, his insights and vision offer valuable direction for future leaders, educators, and innovators alike.

Global Times Now proudly celebrates Prof. Dr. Sam El Namaki for his enduring contributions to strategic thinking, education, and global intellectual advancement.
